The Gift that keeps on Giving

The continuing train-wreck that is the Sarah Palin - VP selection continues to chug along today.

The more I read about Palin's experience in Alaska politics, the more it seems like a bad Saturday Night Live sketch.

For example, in Palin's introductory speech when nominated by McCain, she quickly latched onto the 'reformer' mantra and poked fun at Federal Government earmarks, otherwise known as pork barrel spending.

Unfortunately for Palin, the facts don't agree. Before becoming mayor of Wasilla, a town of 6,000 people, not quite twice the size of the high school I attended, the town received almost no Federal funds. Upon being elected as Mayor, however, Palin quickly changed that. She hired a Federal lobbyist with ties to Jack Abramoff & Ted Stevens, and worked to begin securing as much pork as possible for the tiny town. The town was quickly awash in pork money from the Feds, and ironically, was specifically called-out in John McCain's own annual report of the most egregious pork-barrel-projects in the United States!

As Governor it only got worse. In 2006, Governor Palin requested more money in earmarks per-person than any other state in the Union! You can't make this stuff up, people.

Additionally, Palin also supported the Bridge to Nowhere during her gubernatorial run, only abandoning her support for it once it became a national embarrassment and garnered media attention.

Also, if you want to see something truly bizarre, check out this YouTube video, it is a meeting of AIP, the looney-tunes group of seccesionists who literally want Alaska to leave the United States and form its own country. In the video, the AIP member clearly says that Sarah Palin (i) was a member of AIP, and (ii) essentially only became a Republican so she could blend into mainstream Alaskan politics, and continue to advance their plan. It's sort of like The Manchurian Candidate - meets - Deliverance. You had better watch this video fast, the Republicans are pulling them down as fast as they can, not surprisingly so. There are... no words...

And finally, THIS JUST IN, apparently two weeks ago at Palin's church, while she was in attendance, the guest preacher said that Jews deserve to be victims of terrorism. Umm, I think that's what we call a 'game over' situation.

THIS JUST IN: If you really want to know what Republican insiders think of the pick, check this out. It is a conversation between Reagan speech-writer Peggy Noonan, and Republican campaign strategist Mike Murphy, and NBC political reporter Chuck Todd! Wow...

Also, I can't believe the attack on Palin for exposing her to daughter to country. Let's compare this situation to the famous John Edwards--now there's destruction and beyond the train wreck!
