The Sabato has Spoken

Larry Sabato is the most prominent and well respected political scientist in the United States. He is basically the god of electoral politics in the US. He is the head of the University of Virginia's Center for Politics & their Poli Sci department. During undergrad I was forced to read countless academic articles by Sabato dealing with electoral politics.

Sadly, in this day of cable news people like Sabato are not on television as much as they should be sharing their wizardry, and instead we are forced to listen to gas-bags like Karl Rove and Dick Morris. Morris' electoral map he has been pimping on Fox News has been so bizarre and nonsensical over the last four months, the online political discussion group I am a member of has a few members who have had a great time pulling apart Morris' maps and finding the insane demographic skews that he has to combine in order to create his projections. I honestly think Fox News is paying him to simply make up a new wacky electoral map every week just to keep up ratings, sort of like one of those US News college ranking magazines that has to re-jigger their formula every year in such a way that it completely re-jumbles the list, all so US News can keep selling magazines.

Every major election Larry Sabato releases his 'crystal ball' projections. He is frighteningly accurate. He released his final 2008 projections this week. As you can see, his projections have Obama in a landslide.
